Radiomic Features

How can radiomic features be obtained from CT images for predicting overall survival in lung cancer, and is the extraction process dependent on having corresponding masks? Additionally, is it within our responsibility to choose the radiomic features, or is there a standard protocol to be followed in this selection process?
