Question about hip implants

Question about hip implants

  By: derk on July 4, 2023, 12:53 p.m.

There are hip implants present in the training set. In these regions there is no signal in the input mri and therefore it is impossible to make an accurate synthetic ct in these hip regions. Because of this, are hip implants also possible in the validation and test set and are these regions evaluated in the same way as the rest of the image?

Dear participant,

Thank you for your question. When preparing the synthRAD dataset, we tried to create a realistic and representative dataset that contains a wide variety of patient characteristics and therefore the training, validation and test sets also include a small number of patients with hip implants. Having these cases in the test set will allow us to study how the different algorithms react to rare anatomical features.

For the evaluation and ranking, cases with hip implants are treated the same way as all other test cases and all metrics will be calculated in the usual way.

I hope this answers your question. Feel free to reach out again if something is still unclear.

Best regards, Adrian
